On Monday night, Jaylen Brown left TD Garden with some more hardware. After the Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the series finale to earn their first title since 2008 and their 18th overall, Brown was formally voted the NBA Finals MVP.

Jaylen Brown outperformed Dallas Mavericks, even though everyone was naturally focused on Celtics standout Jayson Tatum as he advanced to the Finals. He was a constant in their 4-1 series victory, averaging 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and five assists while shooting 44% from the field.

Brown, whom Boston Celtics selected with the third overall selection in 2016 out of Cal, averaged 23 points and 5.5 rebounds per game this season while earning his third All-Star nomination. The 27-year-old recently completed the first year of a five-year, $286 million contract with the Celtics.

Brown had 21 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in the 106-88 victory over the Mavericks on Monday night. He went 7-of-23 from the field and hit two three-pointers in the victory. That provided him an advantage over Jayson Tatum, who had taken a back seat to Brown in previous weeks. He scored more than 20 points in only one of the Celtics' first four games of the series, a powerful 31-point performance in Game 3 against Dallas.

Boston Celtics dominated Dallas Mavericks throughout the series

Despite his poor start, Tatum ended with a nearly 30-point triple-double in Game 5 on Monday. He scored 31 points, went 11-for-24 from the field, and had 11 assists and eight rebounds. It was by far his greatest game in the Finals, and while late, it came at the ideal time to prevent the series from returning to Dallas for Game 6. It simply wasn't enough to earn the MVP title.

In the Finals, Boston Celtics dominated Dallas Mavericks, just as they had throughout the series. They went up to a 3-0 lead following a strong start in Boston. By then, the Celtics had won ten consecutive games dating back to Game 3 of their second-round series with the Cleveland Cavaliers. On Monday night, the Celtics easily defeated the Mavericks and strolled to victory at TD Garden. This awarded them their first title in 16 years.
