In a recent appearance on Carmelo Anthony's "7 PM in Brooklyn" podcast with Kid Mero, NBA legend Dwyane Wade opened up about the unforgettable experience of being in the presence of Michael Jordan during the NBA's 75th Anniversary celebration in 2022.
Reflecting on that historic moment, Wade described the electrifying aura that Jordan exuded as he walked into the room filled with fellow basketball icons. "The sh*t talking in the room was crazy, but the moment was when MJ came in," Wade recalled.
"When he walked through, everything changed. Man, when MJ came in, it got silent." Wade elaborated on how Jordan's presence commanded attention, noting, "We're talking about aura. He was sizing everybody from the tunnel. 'Man, I'd bust your a**.' Like he was sizing everybody up."
Dwyane Wade reveals his early career aspirations!
Wade and Anthony were starstruck by the presence of Jordan and other legendary players such as Magic Johnson, Jerry West, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The moment that stood out the most was when Jordan, known for his fierce competitiveness, engaged in playful trash talk with Magic Johnson, even challenging him to a one-on-one game.
This interaction quickly went viral, showcasing that Jordan's competitive spirit remained undiminished even two decades after his final retirement. During the podcast, Wade also shared a personal revelation about his early career aspirations.
He admitted that there was a time when he believed he could surpass Jordan's greatness. "When I had it, I had it. I thought I was going to be, before injuries, I'm like, 'MJ, I'm coming for you,'" Wade confessed. "I thought I was coming for MJ. I'm like, I'm going to be the greatest because I figured it out very early in the league. Right in my second year, I knew."
Wade's early career was marked by rapid success, winning his first NBA championship in just his third season. However, injuries eventually slowed him down in the 2010s. Despite these setbacks, Wade's legacy remains intact, having secured three NBA championships and being inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023.
