In recent times, San Antonio Spurs' young player Victor Wembanyama is one of the most dominant young players in the NBA. The Spurs center, Victor Wemanyama was voted Rookie of the Month for the third time in a row and is a certainty for Rookie of the Year honors.

However, another superstar believes Victor Wembanyama should win more than just ROY this offseason. On a recent edition of his podcast, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green argued that Wembanyama should also be crowned Defensive Player of the Year, contradicting his prior claim that the youngster should be overlooked for the honour.

According to GiveMeSports Draymond Green stated that "I know I said on here a little while back that Wemby shouldn’t be Defensive Player of the Year. I lied. Wemby should be the Defensive Player of the Year. Because he is that amazing defensively."

In 67 games, Wembanyama has averaged 21.2 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.3 steals, and 3.5 blocks, while shooting 46.4% from the field and 31.9% from three.

The way he impacts the game on the defensive - Draymond Green

The Spurs are a rebuilding team with an 18-58 record in 76 games, ranking them in the Western Conference's 15th position. The recent loss for the San Antonio Spurs came against the Golden State Warriors by a score of 117-113. Even though San Antonio Spurs lost the match Victor Wembanyama scored 32 points, nine rebounds, and five assists as he played 31 minutes of the game.

"Wemby is the Defensive Player of the Year. The way he impacts the game on the defensive end, whether it’s off the ball, or on the ball, it’s a problem. When you start driving to the hole, and guys may have a lay-up, maybe not, and they just turn out and go the other way, that’s a problem. That’s a blocked shot in a sense, and no one will account for that." As per Givemesports Draymond Green said.

Draymond Green is a four-time NBA champion and the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year.
