The new champions Boston Celtics have started getting into the business of contract extensions for their players for the new 2024/25 NBA season which will start soon. However, the Boston Celtics have started their contract process with their players to keep them for the next season. Meanwhile Derrick White has agreed to sign a new deal of $125.9 along with a four-year contract extension with Boston Celtics.

During the 2017 NBA season, the San Antonio Spurs signed him for $70 million. Since  2022 he has been a key player for Boston Celtics throughout the 2023/24 NBA in which he won their 18th NBA title. With White in the starting lineup since his debut on February 11, 2022, the Celtics have gone 175-68, good for a.720 winning % that translates to a 59-win rate over an 82-game calendar.

In addition to being selected to the NBA All-Defensive team for two seasons running, White had a three-point percentage of 38.0 while playing with the Celtics. White contributed significantly to the Celtics' overall success this season, as he did the previous several seasons. Derrick White led the team in scoring with an average of 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game in the playoffs after leading the team to 64 victories in the regular season.

Over the last two seasons, including the postseason, Boston has outscored opponents by a whopping 1,177 points when White is on the court. This is the third-highest total in the league, only surpassed by three-time MVP Nikola Jokic who has played nearly 1,000 more minutes than White and teammate Jayson Tatum (who has played nearly 400 more minutes. In both of his full seasons in Boston, White has also had the best on-court/off-court splits of any of the top players in the Boston Celtics.

Derrick White joined the Boston Celtics in the 2021/2022 NBA season and has become the key guard for them in the Eastern Conference.  White still has one year left on his $19.5 million deal. The Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach stated on October 15 that White and the Celtics had negotiated a contract extension before the October 23 deadline.
