DaRon Holmes II, a Denver Nuggets rookie, is anticipated to miss the whole 2024-25 NBA season after allegedly tearing his Achilles during Friday's summer league game against the Los Angeles Clippers. Holmes, who will be 22 in August, got the injury with around four minutes left in the fourth quarter.

As Kobe Brown drove to the hoop, Holmes sprang up to play defence and fell on his right foot. It's possible that the injury happened as he took a step back before jumping. Then he collapsed to the ground and reached out with his right leg, attempting to pull himself out from beneath the basket.

Eventually, the 6-foot-10 forward was able to rise to his feet and advance toward the 3-point line, but it was evident that he was limping and could not bear any weight on his right foot. When play ended, Holmes hobbled over to the bench for medical care before being brought to the locker room.

It may take an year to get recover from the injury

Up until the injury, Holmes was having a fantastic summer league start. After Phoenix selected the 6-foot-10 former Dayton center-forward with the 22nd overall pick, the player was traded to Denver. In 26 minutes, he finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds in Denver Nuggets' 88-78 loss against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Nuggets saw Holmes as either Nikola Jokic's backup or as a frontcourt player who could perhaps complement the MVP for 3-pointers and lob passes. It will take Holmes at least a year to heal from an Achilles injury, which may compromise his agility and explosiveness. However, at 22, it's hoped that he can become the player the Nuggets see him to be. Holmes, a junior, averaged 20.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game to win the Atlantic 10 Conference's Co-player of the Year award the previous season.
