According to sources, the New Orleans Pelicans want to sign veteran center Daniel Theis to a one-year contract. This, a 32-year-old center, appeared in 60 games last season, one for the Pacers and 59 for the Clippers. Theis reached a buyout on his contract with the Indiana Pacers before the 2018–19 season, and he played in 59 games with the LA Clippers. While playing with the Clippers, he averaged 6.3 points and 4.1 rebounds.

The Pelicans must replace the majority of the team's time at the center from prior seasons. Jonas Valanciunas, the former center, was sent to the Washington Wizards in a sign-and-trade transaction. The franchise also moved reserve players Larry Nance Jr. and Cody Zeller to the Atlanta Hawks as part of the deal that brought Dejounte Murray to the organization. In addition to these deals, the Pelicans selected center Yves Missi with the 21st selection in the previous NBA draft, but they made no more changes until they signed Theis.

Daniel Theis is on Germany's roster for the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics. He made a significant contribution to the German team's win at the last FIBA World Cup. Theis had 21 points and seven rebounds in Germany's semi-final victory over the United States in the tournament.

Daniel Theis, who has seven NBA seasons under his belt, including a five-season run with the Boston Celtics, is projected to be a reliable bench player for the Pelicans, who are expected to be a strong contender in the Western Conference playoffs next season. Throughout his NBA career, Theis has averaged 7.4 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 54.1% from the field.

Theis will compete alongside Germany in the forthcoming 2024 Summer Olympics. He was a member of the German team that won the FIBA World Cup last summer. In Germany's semifinal victory over the United States, Theis scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
