As per recent reports, Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark will not be named to the final 12-player USA women's basketball squad for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The complete Olympic roster is more than Reeves' responsibility. The decision was made by a committee including three women's college basketball coaches (Dawn Staley, Seimone Augustus, and Delisha Milton-Jones), Jennifer Rizzotti, president of the Connecticut Sun and head coach of the United States women's 3-on-3 Olympic team, and Bethany Donaphin, WNBA head of league operations.

Caitlin Clark had some international experience with USA Basketball at an earlier age, but she was unable to join the national training camp in Cleveland after being invited since she was guiding Iowa to the Final Four. Clark concluded her career as the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer.

Clark, currently a rookie with the Indiana Fever, has introduced millions of new fans to women's basketball during her collegiate career and in her short WNBA tenure. While Clark will not be going to Paris, the United States is poised to send five-time gold champion Diana Taurasi for a sixth Olympics. Taurasi will be joined by her Phoenix Mercury colleague Brittney Griner.

USA won gold medal in 1996 Olympics

Griner will be playing internationally for the first time since her 10-month detention in a Russian jail in 2022. She stated that she would only play abroad with USA Basketball. The two will be joined by Olympic veterans Breanna Stewart, A'ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier, Jewell Loyd, and Chelsea Grey. Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young, who helped the United States win the first 3x3 gold medal at the Tokyo Games in 2021, will also be on the roster.

Alyssa Thomas, Sabrina Ionescu, Kahleah Copper, and a few more first-time Olympians will be on the team. The American team that won the 2022 World Cup in Australia had all three members. The women's basketball team from the United States has won every gold medal since the Olympics in Atlanta in 1996. The United States will compete against Belgium, Germany, and Japan in pool play at the Olympics.
