The six-time All-Star Blake Griffin announced his retirement on social media on Tuesday, following a 14-year professional career. Griffin said in a social media post that he’s “thankful for every single moment” of his career. The Los Angeles Clippers selected Blake Griffin first overall in the 2009 NBA draft, but he missed the whole 2009-10 season due to a fractured patella in his left knee sustained in the preseason.

According to News 18, “I’m thankful for every single moment — not just the good ones: the wins, the awards, the dunks, and the memorable times spent with family, friends, fans, teammates, and coaches,” Griffin said in his Instagram post, thanking his family and agent, Sam Goldfeder. “I am equally thankful for the not-so-good moments: the losses, the injuries, the way too many surgeries, the lessons, the heartbreaks, and it wouldn’t be a sports retirement letter without acknowledging the ‘haters.’

He had an immediate impact the next year, earning the 2010-11 Rookie of the Year Award, the 2011 Slam Dunk Contest, and was chosen to be the first of five consecutive All-Star teams while with the Clippers. Blake Griffin, a three-time All-NBA Second Team and two-time All-NBA Third Team selection, appeared in his final All-Star Game in 2019 with the Detroit Pistons. Blake Griffin was able to reinvent his game in Detroit with a consistent 3-point shot, and he was named to his sixth All-Star Game in the 2018-19 season. During the season, he averaged 24.5 points and 7.5 rebounds.
