The Basketball Federation of India is set for an initiative to take the sport to newer heights in the country. On the occasion of Diwali, a special bonanza was announced for the team. The top 20 players of the country are set to get a monthly remuneration of INR 75,000 in both the men's and women's teams. A total investment of INR 3.6 crores is said to be made on the same.

Aadhav Arjuna, the President of BFI, made an announcement where he addressed the ambition to elevate Basketball in India. He announced a pioneering program to support talented players. Arjuna kickstarted the initiative to hand about INR 75 thousand every month to the Top 20 players from both men's and women's teams from Diwali 2024.

"As we aim to elevate Basketball to new heights in India, the BFI announces a pioneering program to support our talented players and reinforce our commitment to their welfare. As part of this groundbreaking initiative, starting this Diwali 2024, the top 20 Category 'A' Basketball players, both men and women, will receive a monthly remuneration of 75,000," said Arjuna.

'We will be investing in referees and coaches to raise the overall standard of the sport' - BFI President

He further added that a total investment of INR 3.6 crores is set to be made every year. Arjuna claimed it was an initiative from them to raise the bar of Indian Basketball. Apart from investing in the players, Arjuna claimed that there will be an investment even on the coaches and referees.

"This significant investment of 3.6 crore annually is a testament to our commitment to empowering our players and raising the bar for Indian Basketball. In addition to player remuneration, we will be investing in referees and coaches to raise the overall standard of the sport," added Arjuna in his statement.

The players eligible for the initiative are based on their form at the national and international tournaments in the last 4 years. Additionally, a plan has also been devised to provide a similar prize money for the players in the 'B' and 'C' categories in the upcoming years. The Indian coach Scott Fleming and the selection committee will decide on the eligible players.
