A life-changing accident happened to Formula 1 Legend Michael Schumacher while skiing in the Alps. The 7-time world champion is very fond of skiing, even during his racing days, and he often uses his time to spend it with his family. It’s been 11 years since Michael Schumacher made an appearance before the public. Recently, at his daughter’s wedding, he appeared before a minimal number of guests. For his privacy, the Guests were not even allowed to carry their phones.
Tragic Accident in 2013
After retiring for the second time from Formula 1 racing Michael Schumacher was on a holiday in 2013 with his family. He accompanied his wife Corinna, Son Mick, Daughter Gina and some other friends to a resort in France. He is not new to Skiing as he often enjoys doing that during holiday seasons.
On December 29, 2013, Michael Schumacher headed to one of the unpatrolled areas outside the resort boundaries to help another skier which turned out to be his life-changing decision. Schumacher hit one of the rocks covered with snow and lost his control. He was thrown into the air and collided with another rock 10 metres away, which struck the right side of his head and cracked his helmet.
Aftermath the accident
Michael was initially conscious but unable to answer and showing irregular behaviours medics were called and he was extracted through air. Schumacher arrived at the hospital in a coma stage and immediate brain surgery was done to stop swelling. The doctors said if he didn't wear the helmet then his life would have been gone. Initially press were informed about the accident and told Michaels's condition was very serious.
Michael's Recovery
Michael was in a coma until June 2014 and he was taken back to a hospital near his home for rehabilitation. There a man tried to sell Michael's medical record for 50,000 euros and was caught by the police. So Michael was moved to his home as medical arrangements were made there for his rehabilitation.
What is his health condition now?
Michael is very conscious now. But many say he is paralysed due to the severe injuries he had during the incident. His son Mick said He and his father talk through their eyes. Only some of his close friends and relatives were allowed to visit him. In the Netflix documentary ‘Schumacher’, his health condition was described by his wife Corinna as “Michael is there but he is different now”. But fans and well-wishers all around the world are expecting the Legendary icon to come back with full strength.
