The Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend turned into a dramatic spectacle when Williams rookie Franco Colapinto suffered a horrifying crash during qualifying, registering a staggering 50G impact. The incident, which occurred as the Argentine driver was pushing for a Q3-worthy lap, left both the Williams team and fans worldwide in shock.

Adding to the drama, the visible disbelief and concern on the faces of Williams' mechanics were captured live on TV, with the footage quickly going viral online. Colapinto’s crash unfolded at Turn 13, just off the iconic Las Vegas Strip. Clipping the inside wall, his car was launched into the outer barrier at an alarming speed, leaving it airborne before skidding down the track for hundreds of meters.

The crash brought the session to a premature halt, leaving Williams with another massive repair task. The team later issued a statement confirming Colapinto’s condition was closely monitored. “During qualifying, Franco sustained a significant impact of over 50G, requiring a medical check-up,” the statement read.

“An impact of this magnitude is significant and severe, and he will need to be re-evaluated tomorrow before we will know whether he is clear to race. Franco’s health is all that matters, and we are glad he is otherwise OK.”

Very hard time for Williams Racing!

This marks the sixth crash for Williams in just five races, piling pressure on the team amid Formula 1’s strict cost-cap era. Recent incidents, including Alex Albon’s crash in Australia and Logan Sargeant’s fiery wreck in Zandvoort, have left the team grappling with mounting repair costs and diminishing resources.

Mechanics are now facing yet another gruelling effort to rebuild Colapinto’s car, compounded by the demanding schedule of back-to-back triple-header weekends. The viral reaction of the mechanics reflected the sheer gravity of the situation. With financial constraints threatening the team’s development plans for the next season, this crash adds another layer of complexity to an already challenging year.
