Lewis Hamilton is no stranger to the spotlight, but during a recent media session at the 2024 US Grand Prix, he found himself in the middle of an unexpected conversation about pop star Taylor Swift. Known for his focus on racing, Hamilton seemed caught off guard when asked about his fandom status concerning the globally renowned singer.

The media buzz surrounding Taylor Swift has extended beyond the music industry, even making waves in the F1 paddock. Some drivers, including Hamilton's fellow Brit, George Russell, have openly expressed their admiration for the pop sensation, proudly labelling themselves as "Swifties"—a term used for Taylor Swift's devoted fanbase. However, when Hamilton was questioned about being a Swiftie, he was quick to clarify his stance.

In the interview, Hamilton responded humorously to the question, "Why are you not a Swiftie?" Initially surprised, he fired back with, "I didn’t say I’m not a Swiftie, but to be fair, WHAT IS A SWIFTIE?" His tone implied that being classified as one of Swift’s biggest fans required more than just casual admiration. "You have to be pretty hardcore, right?" he quipped, expressing the sentiment that being a Swiftie may involve a deeper connection to Swift's entire music catalogue.

‘I don’t know all her songs’, says Lewis Hamilton

The conversation continued as the interviewer elaborated on the criteria, stating that Swifties are expected to be fully invested in Taylor Swift’s music. Hamilton acknowledged his appreciation for the singer but admitted that he doesn’t fit the mould of a diehard fan. He confessed, "I just told you one of her songs that I love, but I don’t know all her songs and I don’t particularly listen to albums anymore."

Hamilton’s remarks reflect his reluctance to be defined by the Swiftie label despite his enjoyment of some of Swift's work. While he appreciates her talent, he pointed out that being a fan of one song does not automatically make someone a "Swiftie," as he doesn't immerse himself in her full discography.

The lighthearted exchange highlighted Hamilton’s down-to-earth personality while providing a glimpse of the pop culture influence permeating Formula 1. Whether or not Hamilton ever claims the Swiftie title, it’s clear that the driver’s focus remains squarely on racing, even when the conversation veers into the world of celebrity fandoms.
