Sergio Perez is one of the most loved F1 drivers and a gentleman of the game. He never indulges in unwanted troubles or swears at others. He is always calm and gives equal respect to the other drivers. The Mexican fans love him more than any other sports celebrity.
During the 2023 Mexican Grand Prix, the fans were eager to see Checo win the race. Charles Leclerc crashed him at the opening lap and fans started booing the Monegasque driver after the race. But Sergio Perez didn't had issues with leclerc about that incident. One such incident took place during the 2021 Mexican Grand Prix. Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez were the podium winners.
They are all lining up for the post-race interview, Hamilton was called and the crowd started booing him. In the 2021 season, the rivalry between Red Bull and Mercedes was like a war and Red Bull fans didn't like Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas after the British Grand Prix incident. The crowd booing was so loud that nobody could hear anything.
Sergio perez saves Hamilton from crowd 'boos'
Lewis Hamilton was a bit disappointed with the response as he won his fifth World title at the same venue, and the crowd was cheering his name. But in 2021 he became the villain just because of Sergio Perez joining the Red Bull team and the whole mexican crowd's loyalty shifted to Red Bull Racing. Perez was a generous man and was standing behind Lewis Hamilton waiting for his turn.
As soon as he heard the fans booing Lewis Hamilton, Checo stepped in and defended Hamilton by waving a hand gesture telling them not to boo at the British driver. After Checo’s request, the crowd stopped booing and became quiet. This proves how much Checo is loved in Mexico and the fans are ready to do whatever he says. This year, we expect total anger from the mexican fans towards the Red Bull team and drivers when they come to the Mexican Grand Prix. Many believe the way Checo was sacked from the Red Bull team is very wrong.
