The Red Bull Formula 1 team is known for their crazy PR activities. From the fastest flying drone that almost matched the speed of the car to Mark Webber's team performing a tire change outside the Houses of Parliament during the British Grand Prix 2010, Red Bull has done it all.
Another crazy marketing stunt that Red Bull did was complete a pit stop in just 2.84 seconds, with the twist of it being done in complete darkness. The team achieved this feat in late December last year.
They put in a lot of effort in getting the timing right. They began with practicing with blindfolds before moving to the completely dark factory. Their helmet visors were also completely blacked out. However, only the tyre change crew were blindfolded, whereas the front and rear jack operators and the driver wore night vision glasses provided to them by the military.
They initially recorded a time of 8.84 seconds, and only after ten attempts were they able to get it down to 2.84 seconds.

"The sense of sight, being able to see the car, your team-mates, and what you are doing are intrinsic to a successful pitstop, so having that taken away presented some serious hurdles," said Red Bull's sporting manager Jonathan Wheatley.
He added, "However, what soon became clear is how fluid the team is in its approach, communication, ability, and cohesive spirit; that the task at hand was almost second nature. I was really proud of their performance.
"The time of 2.84 seconds is a strong stop even in broad daylight. I'm certainly not saying that I would like to turn the lights out in a race, but being able to pull this off so succinctly, in the pitch black, shows what a well-oiled machine the crew is and testament to the fact we have won six consecutive DHL Fastest Pit Stop Awards. Beautiful work."
While many teams struggle to get this in actual races, what Red Bull achieved blindfolded Red Bull also has the record for the second-fastest pit stop in a Grand Prix of just 1.82 seconds. Lando Norris' pit crew holds the record for the fastest pit stop in just 1.8 seconds.
