As MotoGP gears up for the penultimate race of the season in Malaysia, fans can look back at Pedro Acosta's incredible journey to becoming the 2023 Moto2 World Champion. This throwback to his remarkable season celebrates a young rider who has not only dominated the Moto2 class but also made history as the youngest intermediate-class champion.

The Red Bull KTM Ajo prodigy clinched his title with two races left in the season, securing it with a strategic podium finish at the Grand Prix of Malaysia. With a record-breaking performance, Acosta wrapped up his season with seven wins and 14 podiums, demonstrating his relentless talent and determination.

Here is the video:

Born to race, Acosta's journey began with his first motorbike at just five years old, though it took time for him to fall in love with the sport. Once that spark ignited, his journey through the ranks was unstoppable. His pre-Moto3 achievements included winning Spain’s pre-Moto3 championship in 2017 with two races to spare.

The following year, he entered the FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship and began to make a name for himself. However, it was in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup that Acosta truly set himself apart, finishing his first season as runner-up before storming through 2020 with six consecutive wins to secure the Rookies title.

A victory from pitlane

His Grand Prix debut in Moto3 in 2021 was nothing short of spectacular. Acosta earned a podium in his first race, and in his second, he clinched an unforgettable victory—from the pitlane. By the end of the season, he had etched his name in the record books as the first rookie to win the 125cc/Moto3 title since Loris Capirossi in 1990.

When Acosta advanced to Moto2 in 2022, any remaining doubts about his potential were erased. Despite early season injuries, he secured his first Moto2 victory at Mugello, closing the year with another win in Valencia. Yet, it was in 2023 that he cemented his legendary status.

Initially challenged by Tony Arbolino, Acosta regained momentum after the summer break, consistently outperforming his rivals to clinch the title and make history with every race. As of the 2024 MotoGP season, Acosta is now with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team and holds 6th place in the championship standings, trailing by just six points from Enea Bastianini.
