In a dramatic turn of events at the Red Bull Ring, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris collided late in the race. This resulted in significant consequences for both drivers. Verstappen, who had been leading comfortably for most of the Grand Prix, saw his victory hopes dashed after a slow final pit stop allowed Norris to close the gap rapidly.

The incident unfolded on Lap 64 at Turn 3, where Norris, trailing closely behind Verstappen, attempted a daring move on the outside. Verstappen, defending his position, moved to cover Norris, leading to contact between the front-right of Norris’s McLaren and the rear-left of Verstappen’s Red Bull. The collision resulted in punctures for both cars, forcing Norris into an immediate retirement from the race.

Here is the video of the Verstappen and Norris collision:

Verstappen, despite sustaining damage to his car, managed to limp back to the pits for repairs, but the incident cost him valuable time and positions. As a result, George Russell seized the opportunity to secure his maiden victory for Mercedes, crossing the finish line in first place.

Verstappen, despite his efforts to salvage points, could only manage fifth place after serving a 10-second time penalty imposed by race stewards for causing the collision with Norris. Fortunately for Verstappen, his lead over the sixth-place finisher, Nico Hulkenberg, was substantial enough that he retained his position despite the penalty.
