The third free practice session (FP3) at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix took a dramatic turn as Logan Sargeant suffered a significant crash that brought the session to a sudden halt. The Williams driver lost control of his car coming out of Turn 3, resulting in a heavy collision with the barrier. The impact was so severe that it triggered a red flag, forcing the session to be stopped as marshals rushed to manage the situation.
Sargeant, though shaken by the crash, quickly reassured his team over the radio, saying, "I’m OK," even as smoke billowed from the back of his damaged Williams. The crash left a trail of debris scattered across the track, necessitating a lengthy delay as the marshals worked to clear the circuit.

The damage to both the car and the barrier was substantial, with a recovery lorry eventually hauling away what remained of Sargeant’s Williams. The team faces a race against time to repair the car ahead of the all-important qualifying session.
Nico Hulkenberg’s fifth crash!
The incident occurred when Sargeant slightly veered onto the grass, instantly losing control of his vehicle. The wet conditions at Zandvoort made the situation even more treacherous, contributing to the severity of the crash. As the session was paused, teams and drivers waited anxiously, with half an hour remaining, but the red flag state persisted as marshals worked to restore the track.
Sargeant’s crash was not the only incident during FP3. Earlier in the session, Nico Hulkenberg, driving for Haas, also faced challenging conditions. Hulkenberg went off track and, in an unusual turn of events, continued driving with his front wing lodged under his car. This led to concerns about the safety of his vehicle, and the stewards noted the incident, citing him for driving in an unsafe condition.
