In a scene reminiscent of their fierce 2021 rivalry, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton were spotted in a friendly chat in the press area following the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix. The two racing titans, who have had several on-track clashes over the years, had another intense encounter seven laps from the end of the race on Sunday.

The battle for the final podium spot reached its climax on Lap 63 when Verstappen attempted a daring move on Hamilton’s Mercedes into Turn 1. The aggressive lunge saw Verstappen’s Red Bull make contact with Hamilton’s front right tyre, causing the rear of Verstappen’s RB20 to lift off the ground briefly. Verstappen, who later rejoined the race in fifth place, claimed Hamilton had moved under braking.

Here is the video:

Despite the heated competition, both drivers showed sportsmanship by engaging in conversation before the press conference. Hamilton was seen patting Verstappen after the chat. The video soon went viral on social media.

Reflecting on the race, Hamilton acknowledged the superior pace of the McLarens and Red Bulls compared to his Mercedes W15. "Ultimately, we didn't have the pace of the McLarens or Red Bulls," Hamilton admitted. "It was very, very tough to hold on and make those tyres last. The close battle we had was hair-raising, but that is motor racing."
