The Qatar Grand Prix is just days away from now and now let's take a look at last year's Sprint race crash between Perez, Ocon and Hulkenberg when the Red Bull and Alpine drivers attempted a Schumacher-Hakkinen move but couldn't make it to perfection.

The iconic Overtake

In Formula 1 there are many greatest overtakes done in the past. But one of the very daring and brave overtakes was done by Formula 1 legends and rivals Michael Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen. The historic and iconic overtake was done by the legends at the 2000 Spa circuit in Belgium.ย

Schumacher was defending Hakkinen very hard and didn't leave space. So the 'Flying Finn' found a way to overtake Schumacher by lapping BAR driver Ricardo Zonta in the inside line while Michael took the outside line. He then maintained the lead and won the race.

Though Zonta was sandwiched between the Finn and the German it didn't turn out to be a big accident as both the legends made it to perfection. The same kind of overtake attempt was made by Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon during the 2023 Qatar Grand prix Sprint race.

All three out of the race

But the overtake attempt went in vain as both the drivers squeezed the Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg between them and all three cars were out of the race. Checo went inside the line of Hulkenberg and Ocon went outside the line.ย

The Alpine driver locked his front tyres and went into the side pod of the Red Bull car also damaging the front wing and suspension of the Haas car on his way. The stewards investigated and declared it a racing incident and no further action was taken. The incident made us realise even well-trained drivers like Sergio Perez and Ococn couldn't achieve perfection every time while doing an overtake. But the incident made us remember one of Formula Oneโ€™s iconic overtakes.
