The No. 40 Cadillac V-Series R was eliminated from the race after Louis Deletraz caused a multi-car collision, ending Cadillac's chances of winning the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Until Deletraz took over and caused the multi-car collision, the No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing entry, driven by former Formula One driver Kamui Kobayashi, had been leading the race.

After a full course yellow in the tenth hour, the Swiss racer lost control going into Turn 1 while dueling Tom Blomqvist's No.60 Meyer Shank Acura, which had dropped him to sixth in the GTP class. After hitting the barrier in the grass, he skidded back onto the track and came to a stop in front of oncoming traffic. However, on the approach to Turn 2 at the restart, the Swiss driver seemed to spin by himself, striking the barriers at the corner's exit before spinning back on course.

Following the crash, Nick Boulle was observed getting out of the #2 United Autosports ORECA, while Sebastien Bourdais' #8 Tower Motorsport LMP2 entry was also damaged. With the #40 V-Series, Cadillac's chances of winning the Daytona 24 Hours were severely damaged. Following an eight-hour mullti-car collision, R entered by Wayne Taylor Racing became trapped on the circuit. Louis Deletraz was fighting for sixth place in the GTP class with Tom Blomqvist's #60 Meyer Shank Acura when the race's fourth course yellow was retracted.

Many GT vehicles were also involved in the collision

During the restart, however, the Swiss driver seemed to be spinning all by himself as he approached Turn 2, striking the barriers at the corner's exit before spinning back on course. Nick Boulle was observed leaving the #2 United Autosports ORECA during the crash, while Sebastien Bourdais' #8 Tower Motorsport LMP2 entry was also damaged.

Several GT vehicles were also involved in the collision, such as the #9 Pfaff Lamborghini, the #77 AO Racing Porsche, and the #48 Paul Miller BMW. When the crash occurred, Max Hesse's 48 Paul Miller BMW M4 GT3 EVO was at the top of the GTD Pro class. The #40 Cadillac LMDh that started the incident was removed from the race later that day when it was placed on the back of a flat-bed truck. Shortly after the race's sixth hour, Kamui Kobayashi's vehicle was in the lead in the GTP class
