George Russell wants FIA and the Formula 1 governing body to set parameters for junior categories just like F1 to have a clean race in the future of the sport. F1 drivers have penalty points for rash driving, aggressiveness, and breaking rules and regulations. If a driver gets 12 penalty points within 12 months they will be banned for a race.

Haas F1 team driver Kevin Magnussen served a penalty and became the first driver in Formula 1 history to be punished under the system which was implemented back in 2014. He was banned for a race which he served during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

George Russell wants the same order

Kevin served the penalty punishment by sitting out giving way for Oliver Bearman to race on his behalf. Russell in a recent interview said “It's a conversation that has been had several times in previous years as drivers have sailed close to the wind. No One’s been banned in 12 years, so you could argue, were the penalty points harsh enough?”

Magnussen on the other hand said some of the penalty points he received were unfair. But Russell wants these kinds of severe punishments should be implemented across all categories from senior to junior category. Russell says “You could argue his penalty points from Monza seemed a little bit harsh, but you could also argue, some of the other incidents, The penalties perhaps were not harsh enough. Also, we need to set a bit of a precedent for the junior series.

They look up to us in F4, F3, F2 and you shouldn't be allowed to get away with dangerous or erratic driving and at some point you do need to be punished for it.” Formula 1 will head into the United States Grand Prix this week and then move on to Mexico, Brazil and then to Las Vegas. This year Formula One title contention is between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Red Bull and McLaren are the only two teams in constructors title contention.
