Popular streaming platform Netflix has made a series ‘Senna’ based on the life of former F1 driver and 3-time world champion Ayrton Senna. The Brazilian driver is one of the all-time great drivers in the history of motorsport. But the Netflix series has disappointed Senna's archrival and teammate Alain Prost. The Frenchman is also one of the all-time greatest drivers in F1 and he is a four-time world champion. His four titles came racing against Senna, so he is definitely one of the greatest and should be given the respect he deserves.
The former teammate of Senna has openly criticised ‘Senna’ not because it praises the legendary driver. Prost feels the series has many stories that were not true and were taken out of thin air and made into a story. Before Senna passed away in the 1994 season, Alain Prost was his biggest rival, and it is called one of the greatest rivalries in F1 history.
Alain Prost criticizes Netflix
Both were teammates when racing for the McLaren F1 team. As tough competitors and great drivers, both had their part in fuelling the fire within them. But many felt the series was completely one-sided, showing Prost as a villain. The Frenchman is the only driver who won against Senna (1985, 1986, 1989 and 1993) during his prime and retired after his final championship win. Ayrton Senna replaced Prost at Williams Racing in 1994 and there he had the tragic accident that ended his life.
As everyone knows, the two greats are the arch enemies. But they also shared a great friendship and mutual respect. The legend was not happy with his portrayal in the series. He felt even Senna wouldn't like it if he was alive today. The pro said, “I’m sure Ayrton would not like it, not least because it shows a lack of sensitivity. It’s a great story, but you shouldn't just tell things that aren't true. If you do something commercial, it’s not nice to do it with Senna’s name. I don't like it and I don't accept it.”
