KTM rider Pedro Acosta is confident of winning the first-ever MotoGP crown for KTM and ending Ducati’s dominance in the sport. He also says legendary basketball player Michael Jordan is his inspiration to win the title for KTM.

The young rookie Pedro Acosta made his debut in 2021 and in his debut season, he won the Moto 3 title. He then moved to Moto 2 and in his second year, he dominated the season with 14 podiums out of 20. In 2024 just after 3 years in bike racing he got the opportunity to race for KTM as a rookie rider.

He made headlines after fighting with Former world champion Marc Marquez in the season opener at Qatar GP. He also achieved his first podium in his second race at Portimao. He came second in Austin and everyone turned their head towards the young Spaniard.

But he faded mid-season and again appeared on the podiums at Aragon and Indonesia. Many compare Acosta with Rossi, Marquez, and Lorenzo as they won their first MotoGP seasons. All three legends debuted in the best bikes unlike Acosta debuting for KTM. MotoGP is now fully dominated by the Italian manufacturer Ducati. The Asian giants Yamaha and Honda are pushed aside by the Europeans Ducati, Aprilia and KTM.

KTM is like my family- Pedro Acosta

After the Indonesian GP, he was asked about moving to Ducati as his current contract with KTM ends in 2025. But for Acosta KTM is like a family and it is no longer about business or contracts. Acosta will move to the KTM Factory team next year where he will join the newly appointed team boss Aki Ajo.

He says Micahel Jordan is his inspiration to race for KTM. Jordan was first picked by Chicago Bulls which was one of the worst teams in the league. Though Jordan was the leading scorer the team lost most of its matches. Many teams showered Jordan with huge pay and offers but Jordan stayed with the bulls saying “It would be easy to go to a winning team and be a champion. The hard part was bringing the ring to Chicago.”

Pedro Acosta like Jordan has no plans to leave KTM and join a Ducati team. He explains “My big dream is to be world champion, but my biggest challenge is to achieve it with KTM.” Marc Marquez faced the same kind of situation with Honda but he moved to a Ducati-based team and next year he will be racing for the factory team and could be a world champion again.
