As Mohamed Salah's future at Liverpool remains in limbo, former club star Dietmar Hamann has tipped Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush as a potential successor. With Salah entering the final year of his contract, questions have arisen about whether he will extend his stay at Anfield or move on, possibly leaving on a free transfer next summer.
Hamann, a seasoned ex-Liverpool midfielder, has suggested that Marmoush, who currently plays for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, could be a suitable replacement if Salah departs. Marmoush has been in sensational form this season, netting 10 goals in 10 appearances across all competitions.
His performances have sparked interest, with Hamann believing that the 25-year-old possesses the qualities necessary to make an impact in the Premier League. When asked about Marmoush's suitability for English football, Hamann confidently stated, "Yes."
Hamann praised both of Frankfurt’s strikers, Marmoush and Hugo Ekitike, as players who could thrive in the Premier League. He noted, "I think that both Frankfurt strikers are on the radar of the English. A wonderful couple that harmonise very well with each other." Hamann emphasized Marmoush's potential, saying, "He's a wonderful player, a great finisher, and has pace. It will be difficult to follow Salah, but I would trust Marmoush to do it."
A big loss for Liverpool!
Salah's departure, if it happens, would undoubtedly leave a significant void at Liverpool. The Egyptian winger has been a pivotal figure for the club, consistently delivering top-notch performances and rarely missing games. Hamann acknowledged the challenge of replacing Salah, saying, "It will be difficult to follow Salah. I don't think he has missed ten games in eight or nine years."
Despite the speculation around Salah's future, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher remains hopeful that Salah will extend his contract. Carragher believes Salah is motivated to break more records, including climbing higher on the Premier League's all-time top scorers list.
"I think stats like this are one of the biggest reasons why Mo Salah will sign a new contract at Liverpool," Carragher shared on Sky Sports. He further added, "He breaks all the records at Liverpool, but getting as far as he can up those lists, I think that's a big part of his focus as a player."
