Mohamed Salah continues to etch his name in Premier League history, this time by becoming the league's most prolific opening-day goal scorer. His latest achievement came during Liverpool's first match of the 2024/25 season against Ipswich Town, where Salah found the back of the net to secure his ninth goal on the opening day.
Diogo Jota opened the scoring for Liverpool, Salah doubled their lead by completing a clever one-two with Dominik Szoboszlai before calmly slotting the ball past the Ipswich goalkeeper. This goal not only secured Liverpool’s lead but also marked a significant milestone in Salah's illustrious career.
Before this match, Salah was tied with Premier League legends Alan Shearer, Frank Lampard, and Wayne Rooney for the most goals scored on the first day of the season. They each scored eight goals on the opening day. However, with his ninth opening-day goal, Salah now stands alone at the top.

But Salah’s record-breaking feats didn’t stop there. His goal against Ipswich also brought him level with Wayne Rooney for the most goal involvements on the opening day of the Premier League season. Both Salah and Rooney now have 13 goal involvements each, with Salah’s tally comprising nine goals and four assists.
Mo Salah has been a star for Liverpool
Since he arrived at Liverpool in 2017, Salah has consistently delivered on the opening day, missing the mark only once—in the 2023/24 season when Liverpool drew 1-1 with Chelsea. Despite that rare blank, Liverpool has never lost an opening game with Salah in their ranks.
One of Salah’s most memorable opening-day performances came in 2020 against Leeds United. In a thrilling seven-goal encounter, Salah’s hat-trick ensured Liverpool’s victory and prevented Leeds from upsetting the reigning Premier League champions in their return to the top flight after 16 years.
