Lewis Hamilton is expected to drive the Ferrari's 2022 car on Wednesday, January 22, for his first taste of Ferrari F1 gear. Hamilton is scheduled to make his Ferrari debut next week after departing Mercedes for the 2025 Formula One season. Following Ferrari's decision to go to Hamilton over Carlos Sainz at the end of the previous year, the seven-time World Champion will join Charles Leclerc.
Hamilton, a British driver who celebrated his 40th birthday last week, is presently taking a brief holiday after his career with Mercedes came to an end. On Monday, January 20, he will formally start his F1 2025 preparations with Ferrari. He is expected to make his racing debut during his first week at Ferrari. Ferrari usually conducts a "wake-up test" in January to get the team and drivers back on track before the start of the new season.
Nearly a year after the shocking announcement from the previous season, the "unrealisable dream" is about to come true. The seven-time British Formula 1 world champion will soon be in a Maranello car, making his first laps on the track in front of the Ferrari fans. This news has alerted police and other officials as he is set to take the first lap at Fiorano with the new Ferrari F1 car.
Lewis Hamilton will be on track in Fiorano even before the now-famous Project 677, the new Maranello car, is unveiled. To experience the handling of the Scuderia, he will take the wheel of one of the latest Ferrari vehicles. If the weather permits, this initial test will be conducted on January 22. The event is already being planned by the local government.
Bahrain to hold pre-season test drive before the first Grand Prix
On February 19, Ferrari will formally unveil the new Project 677 car, whose development is being spearheaded by Hamilton's former Mercedes coworker Loic Serra. This comes one day after Hamilton and Leclerc attend F1's inaugural season-launch event in London. Following that, F1 will test in Bahrain for three days from February 26 to 28 before the Australian Grand Prix, which opens the season on March 16 in Melbourne.
