British Formula 1 racer and 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton plans to legally change his name to honour his mother before joining Ferrari this year. Hamilton turned 40 earlier this month and joined other drivers like Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen who raced after their 40s.

The former Mercedes driver will also be the oldest F1 driver to debut for the Maranello team. Hamilton has admitted that apart from joining Ferrari, he has some other big plans this year. One of them was changing his name to honour his mother's legacy. Lewis said, “I’m really proud of my family’s name: Hamilton. Actually, none of you might know that my mum’s surname is Larbalestier. And I’m just about to put that in my name.”
He added, “Because I don't really fully understand the whole idea of why, when people get married, the woman loses her name. I really want her name to continue on with the Hamilton name.” After 2021, Lewis Hamilton is running on a rough patch, and he is doing everything to overcome it. Joining Ferrari is also one of his biggest decisions after winning 6 world titles with Mercedes.

Only last year at Silverstone he won the British GP for the 9th time, and it came after two and a half years of waiting. Hamilton became emotional and cried, hugging his father, and he even took his mother to the stage and celebrated along with her. His move to Ferrari was also to get motivation to continue in the sport and hunt for his 8th world title.
Lewis will join Leclerc and fight for the championship against his former team Mercedes, McLaren, and his biggest rival Red Bull. Most of the fans are waiting to see Hamilton in red, and the most anticipated moment will come next month, 18th, where Formula 1 is planning to launch every car for the 2025 season along with the drivers to celebrate the 75th anniversary of F1.
