After a great outing on the first day of the Canadian Grand Prix 2024, Mercedes driver and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton sounded satisfied with the car. In the last few seasons, Mercedes has failed to produce a competitive car which have dented their opportunities to fight on track.

However, since the last two rounds, the Silver Arrow team has been looking settled with a much more effective and driver-friendly car. Their fully upgraded car at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve helped both Hamilton and George Russell to outplay key competitors.

Expressing his satisfaction with the car Hamilton said that he was keen to get a much-deserved victory for the team. He also fired warning shots at opponents stating that he was feeling more confident and having a fighting spirit.

After Yesterday’s sessions he said, “I felt great. I was just raring to go just every second. I kept telling the guys: ‘Just get out, get out, get out.’ I was rushing my guys – ‘let’s go, let’s go’ – just to maximise time on track whatever the conditions.”

“This is a track where it’s building blocks, so it’s about just getting as much time on track and understanding both conditions and also the changes they made to the surface and also to some of the runoff areas. It was a really good session, a good day. The car was feeling strong, so I thoroughly enjoyed the session. I didn’t get to finish my quickest lap.”

“I feel confident”, says Lewis Hamilton at Canadian Grand Prix

Further speaking about the upcoming qualifying sessions and his expectations Hamilton said that I am feeling more confident out there as the car is responding well. He said, “Honestly, it’s too early to say. I feel like I’m in fighting spirits, I feel like the car is reacting to my inputs and I feel really confident out there.”

“But we won’t know till we get out tomorrow. Saturday is often a different day for us, but I’m hoping tomorrow is a good day. But I think in either condition I felt really strong today, so I’m really hopeful. I do feel like we’re closer to the front this weekend.”

It’s worth noting that Lewis Hamilton has failed to win a Grand Prix in the last two seasons and is keen to get his hands on one before shifting to Ferrari. Canadian Grand Prix will be one of his biggest opportunities as he has been one of the most successful drivers here.

The 39-year-old finished fourth in FP1 and sixth in FP2 after failing to finish his quickest lap making it a threatening weekend for others. Especially for the defending champions Red Bull as they are constantly struggling in practice sessions and a thing here and there might cost them a lot.
