The MotoGP championship leader Jorge Martin has said he prefers to crash now than crashing during race time in Malaysian MotoGP weekend. The Spaniard is all positive about his crash during the practice session as he narrowly missed his lead over reigning champion Bagnaia.

The current riders' championship leader wants to know the limit of the Sepang international circuit so he is thinking positively about yesterday's crash in the Practice session. During his final run, the prima Pramac Racing rider lost his Ducati’s front end and slid off the track ending his session. His title rival Francesco Bagnaia had the fastest lap of the session and the Spaniard was pushing to the limits to compete with his rival.

Even a crash is a positive thing

He finished second after the session which helped him to move directly into Qualifying 2. The Ducati Factory rider and two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia set the fastest lap time which could affect Martin mentally. But Martin is full of confidence and positive about his race and championship chances. He said “I think it's also positive that I crashed today. Because I can see the limit and understand why I crashed. So it's good to crash today!

I prefer to crash now than in the race. I like this track and the bike is working really well. I felt competitive throughout and I feel confident with our work.” Jorge Martin feels engine braking was an important factor in his crash during the practice sessions. He also spoke about his previous crashes this year with engine braking.

“I think we are struggling a bit with the engine braking. We have quite a lot of grip on the rear tyre, so with the Ducati, you need to slide the rear on entry because otherwise, the front pushes. That’s why I crashed. All the crashes I had this season during races, like Germany, Jerez and Mugello, were the same. The rear was pushing the front. So I’m trying to be really precise on that - today we didn’t make it and I crashed.” The young Spaniard feels they need to care more about engine braking than the actual bike set up for the race. If he again crashes during the Sprint race or Main race then his championship lead will vanish in the blink of a second.
