The Emilia Romagna GP in Italy ended controversially as Ducati Factory Racing team's Bastianini was declared winner of the race despite his late move in the last lap pushing race leader Jorge Martin out of the track. The Ducati rider was declared the winner of the race without any further action taken for his controversial overtake. Now former world champion and Gresini racing team's Marc Marquez who finished the race in third place has given his word in support of Jorge Martin.

Marquez believes Enea Bastianini should be given a penalty for running Martin wide off the track. On the final lap of the race, Bastianini overtook Martin forcing him out of the track. Martin was seen complaining to the stewards but they didn't take any further action as Bastianini was well inside the track.

Marquez doesn't agree with stewards

The Spaniard came in support of Martin saying he didn't agree with the stewards for not punishing Bastianini for dangerous overtaking. He said “I saw a replay. For me, If you do an aggressive overtake and you are inside it's no problem. But if you are out too then ‘drop one position’. I don't agree with that.”

Aprillia’s Alexi Espargaro also said MotoGP sending a dangerous message to other riders by not penalising Bastianini. He said “I'm very disappointed with what the steward's panel is doing. I have no words because one rider touched the other one, and both riders went out of the track and they did not even put it under investigation. It makes no sense.”

Bastianini on the other hand defended his race win. He said “Jorge was certainly not happy, but he closed the gap a lot when I overtook him. It was a bit on the limit, but it was a good overtake. When you have the chance to win the race, you have to do it.”

Bastianini’s dive bomb was never taken into consideration by the Stewards panel led by 2-time 500cc champion Freddie Spencer. They never formally investigated the incident. Despite controversy about the overtake Bastianini and Ducati are declared winners of the Emilia Romagna GP. Ducati won their 100th win in premier class racing.
