In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Jorge Martin secured a sensational victory at the 2024 San Marino MotoGP Sprint race, held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. The Pramac Ducati rider outpaced local favourite and title rival Pecco Bagnaia to claim the top spot, further cementing his lead in the championship standings.
Starting from fourth on the grid, Martin made an electrifying start, immediately surging ahead to take the lead from pole-sitter Bagnaia as they navigated the opening chicane. The early stages of the race saw a tight battle at the front, with Martin, Bagnaia, and Franco Morbidelli forming a leading trio. Meanwhile, Brad Binder, who also had a strong start, found himself in a fierce contest with Enea Bastianini and KTM teammate Pedro Acosta.

As the race progressed, Martin showcased his exceptional pace and consistency, gradually pulling away from Bagnaia. The Ducati Lenovo rider, who was possibly nursing injuries from a recent crash in Aragon, struggled to keep up with Martin’s relentless speed. By the closing laps, Martin had successfully broken Bagnaia’s challenge, securing his first Sprint race win since the German Grand Prix and extending his championship lead to 26 points.
Marc Marquez finishes fifth despite poor Qualifying
Bagnaia, though unable to catch Martin, managed to fend off Morbidelli’s advances to secure second place. Morbidelli, riding for Pramac Ducati, had a battle of his own with Bastianini for the final podium spot.
In a dramatic last-lap duel, Bastianini made a move on Morbidelli at Turn 8, only to run wide, allowing Morbidelli to reclaim third place and celebrate his first MotoGP podium finish since 2021. Elsewhere on the track, Marc Marquez, who had started from ninth following a qualifying crash, worked his way up the order to finish fifth. His late-race charge saw him overtaking Binder and Acosta, demonstrating his resilience and racecraft.
