Liberty Media, an American firm owns Formula One, MotoGP, and world superbikes, last April announced that it has purchased majority ownership of MotoGP worth 4.2 billion euros. To complete the acquisition it sold 825 million dollars worth of F1 shares.

Lewis Hamilton Joining Marc Marquez

In recent months there were rumours that Lewis Hamilton is looking to buy a MotoGP team. He was more interested in owning the Gresini racing squad. The Italian team with drivers like Alex Marquez and 6-time world champion Marc Marquez will be a good buy for Lewis.

Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei confirmed that Lewis Hamilton asked about buying a MotoGP team after the American firm's takeover was first announced. He said “When we announced it, we had immediately people call up and say ‘I want to buy a team’, including people like Lewis Hamilton.

But Lewis Hamilton rejected the claim saying “I haven't looked that far into owning a team”. But Maffei thinks MotoGP is an unbelievably exciting product and it could bring more interest among the fans in coming years.

The American firm is keen on bringing MotoGP to America and the rest of the world where it has a minimum interest. The Heart of Motogp lies in Spain, Italy, and some parts of France. Once Liberty Media gets the European Union's approval it plans to expand the series to the Americas.

The Formula 1 race happening in Austin, Texas has drawn more interest but on the other side MotoGP race in USA is one of the poorly attended races on the MotoGP calendar. Liberty Media is expecting the same success like Formula 1 in the US for Motogp.

Liberty Media plans to improve the TV experience and help the fans understand the story better just like Formula 1. MotoGP which is very famous in Europe doesn't find much success in the rest of the world. If Lewis Hamilton buys a MotoGP team it will be very interesting to see how the series goes.
