Jean Todt, former Ferrari team Principal and Formula 1 pundit have shared his views on who is best between Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz for Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton has joined Ferrari as he starts a new journey in F1. After 12 years with Mercedes where he won six world titles left at the end of the 2024 season. As the new season starts, Lewis Hamilton's eyes are on the eight titles which seems far fetched in the recent times.

As Lewis Hamilton joined Ferrari, fans are hoping to see him winning his eight title and becoming the greatest F1 driver in history. But there is also a dispute on the F1 circuit about whether Ferrari made the correct decision in firing Carlos Sainz, their top Spanish driver, and hiring Hamilton instead, who hasn't been doing well on the track in recent years. An authority on Formula 1 clarified.

Former Ferrari team principal and motor racing executive Jean Todt addressed the subject of who is better for Ferrari, Hamilton or Sainz, even though there is no comparison between Lewis Hamilton and any of the current drivers on the current Formula One roster because the Briton has proven himself to be the sport's legend.

Jean Todt needs good competitive car

According to Todt, the Maranello team doesn't require a skilled driver, but their vehicle needs an upgrade. Furthermore, Todt stated that if the team had possessed a good competitive car, even Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz would have proven to be competent. "What is Ferrari missing to win? Little, very little. Even in the past, they came very close," Todt said. "Even the line-up with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz was a good pairing; they certainly didn’t lose because of the drivers."

Jean Todt also shared his view on Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari. This partnership will be interesting to watch as both are aiming for titles that they are missing at one time. "Obviously, even with Hamilton, the line-up remains top-level. Will it be better than the previous one? I have no idea, we’ll have to see the level of the car." He also shared thoughts on how sharing the same stage with Hamilton will affect Charles Leclerc. He feels like the team will get motivated by their presence.
