American auto giant GM (General Motors) enters Formula 1 in the 2026 season with Andretti Global. However, the team will miss Andretti's name and will race as the Cadillac F1 team. They will also be the first American automaker in years to compete in Formula 1 racing.

The Italian old horse will be the official power unit supplier for the Cadillac team until the 2028 season, when they will bring their own power units and compete in the races. GM’s luxury car division Cadillac wants to expand its wings outside the American market. Formula 1 will be the biggest place to showcase the brand to the European audience.

Ferrari joins hands with Cadillac F1

Ferrari has now officially announced that they are joining the Cadillac F1 project as an engine supplier. They released a statement that said, “Ferrari today announces a multi-year agreement starting from 2026 with Andretti Formula Racing LLC, regarding the supply of Power unit and gearbox to the racing team led by TWG global and General Motors, subject to Andretti Formula Racing LLC receiving written confirmation from the FIA - F1 that its entry to the 2026 FIA Formula one championship has been accepted and approved."

2026 will be the best year as the new engine regulations will be implemented. Cadillac was aiming for a Honda or a Ferrari engine for their 2026 and 2027 F1 years. But Ferrari got the nod from Detroit, so they will use the Italian horsepower inside the American-designed car.

General Motors' direct rival Ford will team up with Red Bull and develop engines after the 2026 season. Honda was the biggest success behind Red Bull’s four world championships, but they will join with Aston Martin and co-develop their engines.

Audi will take over Sauber from the 2026 season and will have its own power units. Mercedes will be the biggest engine supplier in the 2026 season as they will take care of their factory team along with satellite teams like Williams Racing, McLaren, and Alpine.
