Winning the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship is a costly mistake made by Max Verstappen

According to many fans, Formula 1 drivers are the most-paid athletes in the Motorsports industry. It is true to the core, as teams want the best drivers to drive for them, and they pay a lot of money. The drivers also enjoy their huge salaries by spending them in Monaco, private villas, startups, and many other industries.

After all, they are the risk-takers, so they get paid a lot for putting their lives on the line to win races. But as everyone thinks, are great driving skills and talent enough to become a Formula 1 driver? It is completely wrong. With great driving skills and talent, a huge investment from your side is required to become a Formula 1 driver.

F1 is a very costly sport.

Even becoming a Karting driver is very tough nowadays, as you need to spend more money buying a good go-kart and track fees. So think about a Formula 1 car. It is very costly to even stay as a Formula 1 driver, and do you know the world champion Max Verstappen is paying a huge sum of money to race in Formula 1?

Winning will cost you more.

To race in Formula 1, drivers need a special Super License that allows them to drive F1 cars. Every year, F1 drivers have to pay for their Super License; the better you do in F1, the more you need to pay. Over the last four years, Max Verstappen has been paying a huge price for winning.

Price of Super License

The price of getting a Super license directly involves the number of points a driver archives each year. Max got fewer points this season compared with 2023, so he will pay less for next year. But even then, as a world champion, he will pay more money than the rest of the drivers on the grid. For the 2025 Formula 1 season, the base price for the super license is 11,453 euros. 

Additionally, the drivers should pay 2,313 Euros for points scored the previous season. If we calculate all of the points Verstappen scored this year, he will pay around 1.3 million euros for winning the 2024 Formula 1 season. But before passion for winning and racing, nothing is great for these drivers, and they are happy to pay any money to continue racing in Formula 1.
