As Ferrari marks its 70th anniversary in North America the Italian racing company announces a special edition of the car for the upcoming Miami Grand Prix. Ferrari has revealed plans to debut a unique livery, promising 'vibrant and surprising hues.' This exclusive design alteration will showcase a blend of two iconic shades of blue—Azzurro La Plata and Azzurro Dino—as a tribute to Ferrari's 70-year legacy in North America.

The design of the SF-24 car will carry echoes of motorsport history. It will notably be marked by the transition from Italy's signature Rosso Corsa to the white and blue livery of the US during the 1964 Formula 1 season. This distinct combination, which is also embraced by Ferrari's North American Racing Team (N.A.R.T.), symbolizes a pivotal moment in racing aesthetics.

The unveiling of this year's special livery, set to take place in Florida ahead of the Miami race, holds anticipation as Ferrari pays homage to its racing heritage. While the exact reveal date remains undisclosed, Scuderia Ferrari has provided insights into the design's historical significance. It particularly focuses on the incorporation of blue hues.

What do these shades mean?

Azzurro La Plata is a lighter blue reminiscent of Argentina's national racing color. It serves as a tribute to the illustrious career of Alberto Ascari, Ferrari's inaugural Formula 1 World Champion in 1952 and 1953. Ascari's preference for a blue jersey and helmet considered his talismans of luck, resonates through this shade.

It also adorned the racing attire of notable Ferrari drivers in the 1960s, including John Surtees, Lorenzo Bandini, Ludovico Scarfiotti, Chris Amon, and even Niki Lauda during his debut year with the team. Complementing Azzurro La Plata is Azzurro Dino, a deeper blue hue reminiscent of past driver preferences. Notably, Clay Regazzoni prominently sported this shade in 1974, marking a transition in driver attire from blue to the now iconic red, occasionally interspersed with white accents.
