As the Formula 1 season 2024 arrives in Shanghai for the Chinese GP after five years, Alpine Racing has fast-tracked its floor upgrade for A524. The French outfit is struggling after a below-average performance in the ongoing season. The car has failed to produce any power and has become the slowest car in the season.
Apart from Alpine all of its competitors have made significant performance gains. The team remains at the bottom of the pack with no points to show for its efforts. Notably, a series of updates, including a new front wing introduced in Japan last time, brought a slight improvement. However, during the race, neither Esteban Ocon nor Pierre Gasly was competitive for a top-ten finish.
Now, according to the latest news reports to change their luck, Alpine has fast-tracked an upgrade package. This upgrade was originally scheduled for the Miami Grand Prix next month but now will be bought for the Shanghai race.
No upgrade for Gasly in Shanghai!
However Alpine will have only one upgrade before this Week’s sprint and Grand Prix race. This triggers that only Ocon's car will receive the revised floor for the Chinese Grand Prix, with Gasly getting the update in Miami. The team will alternate which driver receives new parts first when only one set is available.
Speaking about the issue, Team boss Bruno Famin admitted that his team needs to get an upgrade soon. He had said, "The last race in Japan underlined how big a challenge we have on our hands to improve our performance level.”
"We must develop the performance of the car to fight for higher positions. While it was good to bring the first updates to the car in Suzuka, we must do more. The team has been working extremely hard and we have been able to bring an upgrade to one car this weekend, one race earlier than planned”, he further added.
