Fernando Alonso’s Long Wait for a Third World Title
Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso has been waiting very long to win his third title but hasn't been able to end his title drought since the 2006 season. In his 20+ year Formula 1 career, Alonso switched to many teams like McLaren, Renault, Ferrari, Alpine and Aston Martin but still couldn't win the title.
A Modern-Day F1 Legend Known for Passion and Longevity
Fernando Alonso is one of the modern-day greats, who is known for his passion for racing and longevity. He is the oldest driver on the 2025 F1 grid and his closest aged F1 driver was Lewis Hamilton. The 2023 F1 season Aston Martin car gave huge confidence as he finished on the podiums many times.
Aston Martin’s Struggles and Hopes for Redemption
Last year, it was a complete disaster and especially the second half didn't quite work well for the Aston Martin team. This year they will have Adrian Newey by their side alongwith his designs, Alonso is looking to win the F1 title for Aston Martin before the 2027 season.
Alonso’s Final Push Before Retirement
Fernando Alonso has no plans to continue in Formula 1 after 2026. So, he only has two years to achieve his goal of becoming a three-time world champion. Last year, their upgrades didn't work and it pushed them back to the midfield. But this year, Alonso feels they could beat top teams.
Fernando Alonso is confident with the 2025 AMR
The Spanish racing legend said, “We think we will catch up pretty soon. We did learn a lot last year, the second part of the season there were a lot of experiments going on in the way of learning more things in the 2025 car. The Simulator has been updated so we have been working a lot in the sim to develop the car a little bit more precisely than the last few seasons. We have new tools, new organisation, and new people in place to tackle some of the weaknesses we identified last year, so we start in a much better place.”
This season will be the last season for the Aston Martin and Mercedes partnership as from 2026 they will join Honda for powertrains. The year 2026 also marks a new era with 50% ICE and 50% Electric powertrains. In 2026, there will be a new team Cadillac F1 racing along with the rest of the grid, so it will be an exciting season in Formula 1.
