Andrea Stella, the head of McLaren, has acknowledged that he made a mistake when he had a private conversation on the team's pit wall during a race. The MCL35's speed propelled McLaren into contention for the 2024 drivers' and constructors' championships, putting the papaya team under intense scrutiny the previous season.

Additionally, they did not always handle this well, as the stress of competing for a title amplified every mistake or dubious call made by the pit wall. Consider the Hungarian Grand Prix, where the team got into a heated argument with Lando Norris over team radio after they had used him to undercut Oscar Piastri and then demanded that he return the spot, or the Italian Grand Prix, where they were made fun of for using the phrase "papaya rules."

However, it seems that McLaren's radio blunders in 2024 weren't limited to the aforementioned incidents, as team principal Stella acknowledged that he periodically makes an odd pit wall error. Stella, Zak Brown, and Randy Singh are shown talking about the 2024 season in a McLaren YouTube video. One of the topics they cover is how things operate on the pit wall.

Zak Brown and Andrea Stella have their private channel for communication

According to Zak Brown, there are covert routes via which some people can communicate with one another. "When you hear all the channels, feels like the whole team’s on the pit wall with you, which is cool," "I can see you guys [Stella and Singh] talking on your double, triple top secret channel from time to time, always wonder what they’re talking about right now.”

In response, Singh disclosed that Brown and Stella have their private channel for communication, and Stella acknowledged that he occasionally makes a lighthearted error when utilizing it. "Sometimes I mix up [the channels], sometimes I want to talk secretly to Zak and I start talking to him, and then I see some faces [on the pit wall] and realize, oh, wrong channel.
