Sprint race summary

The race started with Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri getting to a good start but the championship leader Lando Norris lost three places down to 9th from 6th. The Sprint race has only 8 point places and Norris was suddenly out of point contention. Hamilton’s teammate Leclerc also lost position to Oscar Piastri and George Russell and was pushed to fifth. VCARB driver Yuki Tsunoda as usual shined and gained more position into P6. Liam Lawson battled with Jack Doohan for position and damaged some of his front left wing.

Max Verstappen had a nice chance to secure a strong position in the championship battle and started to gain on Lewis Hamilton. After lap 10, he lost place and was overtaken by McLaren driver Oscar Piastri. Many drivers experienced front left tyre degradation issues. Hamilton kept it steady and steered past Verstappen and Piastri in the back. This was Ferrari’s first-ever win in the F1 Chinese GP sprint race and the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton made it happen in his second race for the team.
