One of F1’s oldest teams and a 9-time world champion, Williams Racing is set to undergo a huge transformation. Frank Williams founded the Williams Racing team in 1977 and they are one of the iconic teams in Formula 1. In the 2020 season, the team was sold to Dorilton Capital and Claire Williams left the team as the last owner and team principal.

Despite that, Dorilton Capital didn't change the team name and the iconic Williams brand was still used. But it will all change now, as the team has secured a huge deal with Atlassian, a technology and software brand. With this deal, the team will be rebranded as Atlassian Williams Racing from the 2025 season. In their 47-year journey, they had many partners like AT&T, Martini and ROKiT. This time the Williams brand will go behind the title sponsor.

Many times F1 team names went behind their title sponsors, like Oracle Red Bull Racing, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, VCARB Racing, BWT Alpine F1, and Stake F1 Kick Sauber. For Williams Racing, the name looks pretty good and doesn't feel awkward like Sauber or Red Bull.

Team Principal James Vowels said, “I am delighted to welcome Atlassian into Formula 1 and our evolution into Atlassian Williams Racing. Attracting title partnerships of this size and significance is a momentous day in our team’s illustrious history and a major milestone in our comeback transformation.”

Atlassian will also be the first-ever title sponsor for the brand since Dorilton Capital acquired the team from the Williams family. This multi-year deal is the biggest ever deal for the British racing team in their 47-year-long journey in Formula 1.

This is a new era for Williams Racing and in 2025 they will have a new driver pair, Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon. Both the drivers are very experienced and close friends. So the team is looking to revive its stature in F1 and return to the front of the grid. The team will launch their new livery on February 18th in London’s Q2 arena.
