An Indian driver in Formula 1 racing - Is it a dream come true?

Kush Maini is the only Indian driver with a good chance to be a Formula 1 driver in the future. The Last Indian Formula 1 driver was Narain Karthikeyan.

Indian Formula 2 driver Kush Maini is nearing his dream of driving for a Formula 1 team after the Formula 1 test with the BWT Alpine F1 team. The Alpine team secured a double podium at last week's Brazilian Grand Prix. The rising Indian star tested the Alpine F1 car at the Lusail International Circuit, Qatar, on Thursday.

It was his fourth Formula 1 test in six months. He tested a Formula 1 car in Austria, Italy, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar. The Alpine team testing the Indian racer for their car brings bright hopes for the future of Indian racing talent.

The Lusail circuit in Qatar was a new track that will host future Formula 1 and Formula 2 races. Maini is in his final leg of the Formula 2 season. He is a consistent performer for the Alpine F1 team. The testing shows the Indian's chances of driving for a Formula 1 team are very near and can come soon.

Maini a future F1 driver

An Indian driver in a Formula 1 car is a dream for many Indian f1 fans. The Last Indian driver to drive a Formula 1 car was Narain Karthikeyan in 2012 when he was the driver for HRT. Since then no Indian driver has reached up to the Formula 1 level. Maini is the only driver who could achieve a Formula 1 debut.

Maini is very impressive for his team’s success as he scored consistent points and five podiums including a race win. Maini’s team Invicta Racing is on the brink of achieving a Constructors championship this season which would be the first for an Indian driver. Kush Maini’s teammate Gabriel Bortoleto recently joined the Sauber F1 team for the 2025 Formula 1 season. 

Alpine F1 will also be having a new driver alongside Pierre Gasly next year with Australian Jack Doohan son of MotoGP multiple world champion Mick Doohan. Maini could be the Next driver from the Alpine F1 academy to move to a Formula 1 seat maybe in the 2026 Season.
