As the 2024 Formula 1 season progresses, the Alpine F1 team finds itself in a position of transition with two vacant seats for the upcoming season. With Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon's contracts set to expire at the end of the year, speculation is rife regarding potential replacements.

However, one name that has emerged from the shadows is that of reserve driver Jack Doohan, whose prospects of joining the Alpine F1 team are gaining traction. Doohan, who secured a commendable third-place finish in the Formula 2 championship last year, has been patiently biding his time as Alpine's reserve driver.

Despite not participating in a racing program this season, Doohan has devoted himself entirely to his role within the Alpine setup. He is honing his skills and awaiting his opportunity to shine on the Formula 1 stage. Recent events, such as Esteban Ocon's collision with Pierre Gasly during the Monaco Grand Prix, have only fueled speculation surrounding Doohan's potential promotion to a race seat.

Will Alpine F1 take a risk with Jack Doohan?

With the Canadian Grand Prix looming on the horizon, whispers within the paddock suggest that Doohan could be in contention to replace Ocon for the upcoming race. The question now arises: should Alpine look internally and promote Jack Doohan to a full-time race seat, or should they explore options outside their current roster?

Doohan's impressive performance in Formula 2 coupled with his dedication to Alpine's cause make a compelling case for his elevation to a race seat. By promoting from within, Alpine would not only demonstrate its commitment to nurturing young talent but also potentially uncover a future star of the sport.

However, the decision to promote Doohan is not without its risks. With the competitiveness of Formula 1 at an all-time high, Alpine may opt for a more experienced driver to partner with their established lead driver, potentially compromising Doohan's chances.
