Amid the ongoing Formula 1 season, there is buzz that FIA is looking for a new point system to benefit the top 12 drivers instead of the current top 10 system. However, some of the drivers and teams have objected to this and have called it unnecessary.

Speaking about the same Alpine driver Pierre Gasly said that F1 doesn’t need a new point system. Gasly suggested that drivers finishing below 10th rank should ask their team to make a faster car instead. While speaking with he said, “What will be the reason behind it?”

“They’ve just got to do a better job; I mean it’s as simple as that. It has always been the same. For the last couple of years top 10, if you’re not in the top 10 you’ve just got to work out there and make a faster car.”

“I’m happy with how it is. I don’t want to change too much, the way Formula One is is just great. Sometimes when you go to a great tool there’s no need to reinvent the wheel as we say, so yeah, I’m happy to keep it as it is”, he further added.

What is the new proposed point system?

With a new proposal Formula 1 might change how they give points during races. Right now, only the top ten drivers get points, but they're thinking about letting the top 12 get points instead. This could make things more exciting, especially for teams that haven't scored any points yet.

The way they give out points would still be the same, from 25 points for first place to 1 point for tenth place. But, under the new system, the top seven finishers would keep their points as usual. The remaining six would get fewer points than before, with 5 points for 8th place, 4 points for 9th place, and so on.

If this change happens, teams like Haas would benefit the most, getting 12 extra points. Mercedes and Aston Martin would get 5 more points each, and Williams would finally score some points. Other teams like Stake and Alpine would also get points, but Gasly isn't too bothered about that.
