We all know that Formula 1 is one of the most iconic motorsport competitions in the world. This is a tournament filled with some of the best racers we know all around the world. The likes of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel are still regarded as sporting icons all over the world. It is safe to say that it is one of the most popular motor racing sports that every fan has enjoyed for years.
We know that this involves a series of races where people get points according to their position. The race includes 20 drivers and out of them the first 10 drivers to finish the race get the points. According to this system, the scores of the first ten positions are 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1, where the 1st position gets 25 points whereas the player finishing 10th gets a solitary point. However, there is a new system in place where points will also be awarded to the 11th and 12th as well. This if granted can be a massive change in the sport.
Esteban Ocon on the new point system
There are many people who have given their opinion on this new system in the world of racing right now. One of the racers who have given out their opinions on the matter is Alpine racer Esteban Ocon who is currently a driver for Alpine. The Frenchman had recently finished 11th in the Shanghai Grand Prix and gave his opinion saying “It's a way of helping the current situation, I think. It would definitely work because we would have been scoring points today. But I would prefer to be able to race at the front and to have every team closer.”
The 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix winner added further stating “I think it is fair to say that it is a small gain on what we are trying to do: making all the cars closer." Overall the words of Alpine explain a lot while other people will think that this is a risky decision, this can still give a chance for drivers to come back into the event with the extra points they will get even after finishing outside the top 10. Right now this system is still in question, but it still might be something new to look forward to in motorsports.
