The Alpine F1 team signed Franco Colapinto despite confirming their 2025 drivers lineup with Pierre Gasly and young rookie Jack Doohan. The Australian debuted in the Yas Marina circuit last year, but 2025 will be his first rookie year with the team. He is under more pressure now because if he doesn't perform well in the first few races Colapinto will replace him.

Many fans say it was very harsh for Alpine to put the youngster under pressure and even question Alpine’s fair treatment of their drivers. But Alpine assures that Doohan will get a fair chance this season like Gasly to perform well.

Franco Colapinto impressed everyone last year after replacing Logan Sergeant mid-season at the Williams F1 team. He was seen as the next big thing in F1 and teams like Red Bull showed interest in signing him for the 2025 season in any of their teams.

His big crashes later in the season made them back off, and Alpine signed him as a reserve driver. Both Doohan and Colapinto are of similar age and it will be easy for Alpine to find the best talent. Talking about their 2025 campaign Alpine boss Oakes assured everyone will be treated fairly.

Fair treatment for Doohan

He said, “It’s been a little bit harsh on Jack, some of the stuff that was written by the keyboard warriors there, and he’s getting his fair crack at it next year. And I think the intention isn't to put pressure on his shoulders. It's genuinely to give the team options further down the line. And for me, F1 is fine margins. There’s a load of people who are depending on a driver to deliver each weekend, and we need to make sure we’ve got the best drivers in the race car, not just now, but also in the future.”

Doohan will be the second australian driver to compete in the 2025 season next to Oscar Piastri. Alpine missed a chance to sign Piastri for the team. They should be more careful with Doohan as they could make the same mistake again. The 2025 season starts in Doohans home country Australia in March.
