Qualifying summary

The session started with the Q1 session where most cars started with soft tyres the fastest on the grid. Liam Lawson's struggles were clearly visible as he made many errors during the session. It was shocking to see him finish last while his junior team drivers Isack Hadjar and Yuki tsunoda qualified P2 and P3 next to Lando Norris. Bortoleto, Doohan, Gasly, Bearman and Lawson were eliminated.

In the second qualifying session, Lando Norris set the fastest lap followed by Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri in P3. The two VCARB drivers stunned everyone by finishing inside the top 10 again with Isack Hadjar in P4 and Yuki Tsunoda in P5. The drivers to get eliminated were Carlos Sainz, Stroll, Alonso, Hulkenberg, and Esteban Ocon.

The third session was critical for many teams as it is a decider for tomorrow's main grid. Again the two McLaren’s were the fastest and Oscar Piastri was the fastest this time. In the final few moments, Lando Norris aborts his lap and Piastri got his first-ever pole position at the F1 chinese grand prix and a new lap record in Shanghai beating Sebastian Vettel's 2018 lap record. George Russell split the two McLarens and finished P2, while Max Verstappen finished P4 ahead of the Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles leclerc. Hadjar was seventh fastest ahead of Antonelli, Tsunoda and Alex Albon.
