Todd Boehly, Chelsea's co-owner, appeared to strengthen Mauricio Pochettino's prospects of being retained as manager next season, praising the team's "beautiful" game. Talking at a Sportico function in Los Angeles, Boehly, whose Clearlake Capital consortium acquired the football team from Roman Abramovich in May 2022, stated that the "commentary has changed" surrounding the squad in recent weeks, following a turbulent first two years under his leadership.

The Chelsea FC owner said, “We’ve seen, over the last two and a half games at least – the second half of Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham – where we played just beautiful football,” he said. “It was so fluid. It was exactly the way we drew it up.

He added, “The number of shots we had on goal in those two and a half games, you could really start to see what we were working on coming together. Our goal is obviously to win. And the commentary has changed over the last two and a half games. I’ve never seen anything change so quickly than prospective on how a team does.”

The Blues' fortunes have improved after being hammered 5-0 by Premier League leaders Arsenal at the end of April, with seven points from the remaining three games to offer them the possibility of European qualification.

According to reports, if Pochettino is interested in trying out the second half of his two-year deal, the club must return to Europe. However, following an acceptable draw with Champions League-chasing Aston Villa and outstanding home victories over London rivals Tottenham and West Ham, the latter of which was a 5-0 rout, Boehly expressed his satisfaction that they are finally living up to the lofty standards set through a more than £1 billion transfer spend.

Chelsea face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday, hoping to overtake Newcastle into sixth place, the last spot that guarantees a place in Europe next season, before going to Brighton next Wednesday and ending at home against Bournemouth on Sunday.
