Cleveland Cavaliers won their first away NBA playoff game, 118–94, to startle the Boston Celtics and the TD Garden crowd in Game 2 of their second-round series. Donovan Mitchell scored 29 points and Evan Mobley added 21 points and 10 rebounds to level the series at one point by 1-1.

Two nights prior, the Cavaliers trailed by 25 points despite Mitchell's 33 points and scant assistance, but they seized the lead in the third quarter and staged an amazing comeback of their own. Mitchell finished the third quarter with 16 points and opened the fourth quarter with three straight baskets, including a banked three-pointer from 28 feet that caused him to shrug his shoulders and take a step back on defence.

A minute later, after Boston Celtics missed another three-pointer (they were 8 for 35 from long range in total), LeVert hit a layup, drawing a flagrant foul from Tatum. It was a 25-point game, so Boston coach Joe Mazzulla emptied his bench.

Cleveland Cavaliers' J.B. Bickerstaff came in shortly after, providing some respite for Mitchell, who played a game-high 37 minutes on Tuesday night but was on the bench for the Celtics' 10-2 run to begin the fourth quarter, which blew the game wide. Mitchell made four of his five 3-point tries in the third quarter, helping Cleveland expand their advantage to as much as 14 points.

Kristaps Porzingis misses another game for Boston Celtics

Kristaps Porzingis, the Celtics' centre, missed his third consecutive game due to a strained calf muscle. Evan Mobley started at centre in place of Jarrett Allen, who has missed the last five games due to damaged ribs, and scored a career playoff high. The series will go to Cleveland for Games 3 and 4 on Saturday and Monday, followed by a return to Boston for Game 5 on Wednesday.
