New York Knicks will be missing center Mitchell Robinson indefinitely after suffering a stress injury to his surgically repaired left ankle, the team revealed on Tuesday. He will be reassessed after 6-8 weeks. According to reports, the 26-year-old Robinson underwent ankle monitoring on Tuesday afternoon.
He has no plans for surgery at this time and will try to rehab the ailment. That timeframe implies he will most likely miss the rest of the Knicks' season, even if they win two more rounds and go to the NBA Finals in 2024.
Injury worries for New York Knicks
After six postseason games, Robinson's averages have been 6.8 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1.2 blocks. He missed the Knicks' Monday night game against the Indiana Pacers and was previously ruled out of the second game because of "injury management." Due to discomfort in the same ankle, Robinson was also forced to miss Game 4 of their first-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Knicks' depth will once again be challenged. The team is already without forward Julius Randle, who required shoulder surgery in April, and Bojan Bogdanovic, who had wrist and foot surgery. Precious Achiuwa, Isaiah Hartenstein's backup, is expected to be the next man up for additional minutes. While Precious Achiuwa has played in three postseason games but has yet to score more than four points.
